“The time has come for me to take the step to make decisions that will propel Democrats and party candidates into the ‘win’ slot." The recent mid-term election loss of seats in the Texas state house and beyond shows that there needs to be a different, more effective approach,” says Acevedo. “I am ready to work hard for the Democratic Party, our communities and for the State of Texas.”

Acevedo believes that the Texas Democratic Party hit “rock bottom” this last election cycle and the time has come for change in the approach that the party uses in engaging its voter base.
“The easy way is to blame the Party Leadership for the last two election cycles, but the reality is that the current Party Leadership has failed to elect any state wide candidates,” said Acevedo.

Acevedo anticipates that the worst is yet to come as the Party continues to lose elections at the county and local level due to disenchanted Democrats who do not see a future for the party in Texas. He wants to see that change with a revitalized party that can only happen with new vision and new leadership.

“The last election losses were so serious I believe that the current State Party Chair should step down. It is inadmissible to continue with this lack of leadership and focus,” stresses Acevedo.

* Born in Levelland, raised in New Braunfels, and living in Austin since 1969. Married for 44 years to Maria Vidaurri Acevedo. They have three adult children and six grandchildren.
* Served five years active duty15 years in the Texas Army National Guard, retiring honorably as Sergeant First Class.

* Long time advocate for human rights and political activist since 1970 where he actively participated in numerous grassroots campaigns related to state and local level issues.
* His dedication to the citizens of Austin and Travis County earned him the position of Election Judge for 10 years and as Precinct Chair for more than 10 years.
* County Delegate for the Travis County Democratic Convention and as a State Delegate to the 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010 Texas State Democratic Convention.
