Finally, a proven way to win against Graffiti Vandalism With Your Cell Phone?

February 21,2013

A plan using covert cameras, an online database and volunteers reduced graffiti on a city by 87% and lead to the capture of the cities prolific vandals.

Think Removing graffiti is the answer to stopping graffiti? Think again!

Did you know that removing graffiti year after year never reduces graffiti in a city. If this is all you do, you will continue to spend your tax dollars on this process, year after year with no reduction.

So is there a way to really stop graffiti? Yes!

First, you must know that the only way to really stop the graffiti is to stop the actual vandals from doing it, or give them a reason to not want to do it.

Recently an Australian city took up the challenge posed by a the Tripwiresystems company in Australia and gave them free rein to prove to them that their system worked.

Tripwiresystems first did a quick citywide audit to determine the vandals at play and the most active locations. Then the company placed this date into their Gripsystems online database. They started painting over graffiti and in the locations that were most active, they set up their covert cameras. These cameras are small and can be hidden almost anywhere you can imagine, even underground in some cases. These cameras when activated by the motion of a vandal in the area, quietly snaps a couple pictures and then sends that information to a list of cell phones that were carried by the crews. When the alert came in, police were notified of the location of the crime in progress and they could also forward those photos direct to the police officers cell phone in those cases when the vandals had moved on prior to the police arrival. This way the police had a photo description of the suspect as they patrol the area. Before and after photos of the locations were maintained for court use when vandals were caught so that they could be charged with all counts of graffiti instead of a single act.

Within 3 months, the city had reduced their over all graffiti by 87% They also had captured 42 of their most prolific vandals, and 20 more vandals stopped tagging altogether due to the mass arrest of the their counterparts.

This is a program that works, it is the only program that has been proven to work. So why are not more cities giving this a try? Unknown!

If you have something that works, and you have not tried it, yet you continue to spend tens of thousand, or even millions on just removing graffiti, you are not doing what needs to be done to help save taxpayer dollars. With just a small investment in these cameras, in most cases less than 1% of what you spend now on removal only. Get some cameras, sign up for the online database which also includes access for the use of smart phones so citizens can also document and send photos of graffiti they find.

With these tools in place, you can use staff or better yet, put together a group of volunteers to do the camera setups and have a cell phone that the camera will send the alert to. This is an easy program to set up, it really does not cost that mush to implement, and the savings that you get will surpass any funds you spend on getting the program up and running. There are even people here in the US that can be contracted with to help you get the program explained and started.

Do it today and you to can get nearly all of your cities graffiti cases stopped! It Really Does Work!
