In the world of lingerie, appearances can be deceiving. A concept originally conceived in late 19th century France, these garments are meant to beautify, to glamorize, and work in tandem with the female form, giving way to untold heights of luxury and fantasy. Unfortunately, in recent years many retailers have applied the “fast-fashion” concept to this old world tradition, churning out shoddy merchandise designed for a few sparse wears before being relegated to a forgotten pile. The irony in this, of course, is that these pieces are “true” lingerie in name alone. Enter “La Vérité ”. French for “The Truth”, this exclusive boutique (located at 1333 3rd Avenue near 76th street in Manhattan) exists to once again offer discerning customers the quality and authenticity they deserve.
In stark contrast to the numerous retailers stocked with “French-Styled” garments available to the masses, La Vérité houses a chic variety of undergarments (both modest and daring), robes and corsets painstakingly crafted in small artisanal factories in France utilizing the finest French silks, organza, and lace. These pieces are then shipped to America for sale exclusively at La Vérité. Whether they are worn alone or under casual or business attire, the regal feel of authentic French high-fashion craftsmanship shines through, finally affording American women the opportunity to enjoy true European sensuality.
La Vérité is the brainchild of fashion veteran Albert Papouchado, well-known to industry insiders as a distributor of high-end imported French fashions to stores such as Henri Bendel, Fred Segal, and Bernini. Throughout his illustrious 30 year-plus career his garments have been modeled by many celebrities in magazines including Vogue, Cosmopolitan and ELLE. After selling his company to Max Azria, owner and creator of BCBG and Herve Leger, Papouchado briefly retired to enjoy his success and family life, before being drawn back into the fashion world by this labor of love. “It is my firm belief that modern American women of all ages, shapes and sizes should have the opportunity to experience the finest in authentic French quality.” he says, something La Vérité’s designs illustrate more than words possibly could.
La Vérité has planned a lavish yet demure Grand Opening planned for December 1st that promises to be in keeping with the line’s European artisanal mystique. Chocolates and champagne will be served as New York’s high-fashion denizens finally get a peek at the satins and silks designed to envelop them in lush fantasy just as their originators intended.
