First death anniversary of a great freedom fighter Ch. Ranbir Singh Hooda

Born on November 26, 1914 at Sanghi, a small village in Rohtak district of Haryana, Ch. Ranbir Singh got his initial education at his village school where he was admitted in 1920 and Gurukul Bhainswal Kalan near Gohana, Sonepat run by the great Arya Samajist activist and social reformer Bhagat Phool Singh whom even Gandhiji held in high esteem because of his work for the downtrodden s. The young political activist courted his first arrest in the wake of the Individual Satyagraha Movement and was awarded one year's rigorous imprisonment on April 5,1941. On Punjab Government's instructions, he was released along with others from jail in May, 1941. But after some time, Bapu's instructions 'to offer for arrest again' came and Chaudhary Sahib went to jail at once. This time, he faced some tougher odds, but as a true "satyagrahi" , he took it all without any complaint. He was, however, released on December 24, 1941. After a while, Gandhiji launched the Quit India Movement, in 1942. Though sad and subdued, Chaudhary Sahib jumped into the fray and courted arrest in September 1942. He spent these days in eight different jails at Rohtak, Ambala,Hisar, Ferozepur, Lahore (Borstal), Lahore (Central), Multan and Sialkot. He accompanied Gandhiji during the course of his peace tours to the districts of Rohtak and Gurgaon. Gandhiji had all praise for his 'selfless service'. He rendered help in rehabilitation of the displaced persons in a big way. In recognition of his services to the nation, the Congress party sent him to the Constituent Assembly in July 1947.
He took active part in the making of the Constitution of the country and drew the attention of that august house to the problems of the village and the workers and peasants. During this period, he was also a member of the Provisional Parliament and served it from 1950 to 52. He was inducted into the Council of Ministers in Punjab State and held two most important portfolios of Power and Irrigation. He made substantial contribution in the making of the Bhakra Dam. On the formation of the separate State of Haryana on November 1, 1966, he shifted to his State and was made a Cabinet Minister in the Bhagwat Dayal Ministry.
Ch. Ranbir Singh, breathed his last at his residence at Rohtak today last year on 1st. February, 2009. OIPA in India and PFA Haryana paid their kind tribute and homage to the great son of India, PFA Haryana dedicated their Gaushala after his name as 'Freedom Fighter Ch. Ranbir Singh Hooda Memorial Animal Welfare Institute' proposed by the representative of the International Organisation for Animal Protection - OIPA in India Naresh Kadyan, second by Dr. Om Parkash Kadyan, Sardar Sukhdev Singh Randhawa, Ashok Kumar Mittal, Mandheer Maan and Yadvender Singh. PFA Haryana further decided to bring out a book in honour of Ch. Ranbir Singh Hooda's life and work contributed towards society, Nation as well, Keshav Chander Wadhaven, Joint Director, Public Relation Department Haryana gave his consent.
