First LaptopXchange to open in Utah
Henderson, Nev. LaptopXchange has opened its eighth store and first in Utah. A grand opening is planned for later this month.

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 17, 2012 --
The Beehive state's first LaptopXchange has opened as the 8th store nationwide for the Henderson, Nev.-based company, and a Grand Opening is scheduled for Jan. 28.
Located in Salt Lake City at 2236 S. 1300 East, Suite D3A, in the Sugarhouse Center, the store will give away a new Apple iPad during the Grand Opening, said storeowner Darrell Duncan. His son, Kyle, will manage the store.
LaptopXchange specializes in used and recertified laptop computers, Henderson-based corporate executive officer Jonathan Waite said. The company takes in trades, buys and sells used laptops from "off the street," and services and repairs both PC and Apple products and resells the equipment they take in trade.
"We do a paranoid hard-disk wipe" before reselling a computer, Waite said. In short that's a Department of Defense standard hard drive cleaning to make sure all data is gone. People who sell their used computers privately may not really know if the data on their hard drive has been properly removed, he said.
"We give assurances that we have taken care of the data and that the operating system has been properly re-installed," Waite said.
The Sugarhouse store brought in three technicians, two with extensive PC knowledge and one skilled in Apple computers. Both PC desktop, tablet and laptop computers are serviced at LaptopXchange, Duncan said, along with iMacs, iPhones, iPads and other Apple products.
"There's a big need for servicing laptops and a huge market for used laptops," Duncan said.
The store offers a 90-day warranty on all its products and extended warranties are available.
"The world has become portable. This is a multi-billion dollar industry," he said.
The company's roots date to 1999 when founders and brothers Tim and Mike Smith started an online buy, sell and trade laptop business.
"The company evolved with the technology," Waite said.
The first brick and mortar store opened in 2003 after the brothers discovered that online sales weren't conducive to customers' desire to "touch and feel." The inventory changes constantly, Waite said, and the technology can be frustrating, which created demand for the service department.
LaptopXchange recently opened store numbers six and seven in Phoenix, Ariz. and Tampa, Fla., respectively and plans on opening store number nine in Ontario, Calif.
For Duncan, it's the fifth franchise he has purchased in Utah. His other franchises are unrelated to the computer industry. He has been in the franchise ownership business for 22 years.
