Fishing in Miami is the best it's been in years... Sailfish, Blackfin Tuna & Shark populations are strong !
Conservation laws, tactics & practice in Florida have been working. The net ban that was implemented years ago has led the amazing rebound of bait fish & a surge of predator species.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 26, 2011 --
Charter fishing in Miami and off Miami Beach had been getting better and better. Conservation efforts and laws have helped from the ground up. The most basic need of the game fish population is food and the populations of bait fish and the duration of their migration into the Miami Beach area has been steadily growing. We have seen more bait fish this year than in recent memory. As the bio mass of bait fish grows so will the population of predators, and we are seeing this happen first hand.
Sailfish, Sailfish, and more Sailfish are migrating past Miami each year as well as the resident fish that we are now seeing all year round. Charter fishing companies like Reel Adventure Charters & Sport Fishing Miami and charter fishing boats such as the Spellbound and Free Spool Too have been reporting multiple catches of Sailfish in short half day fishing charters and double digit Sailfish catches on all day fishing charters out of the Haulover Park Marina located on Miami Beach.
Blackfin Tuna is another species that has made a strong presence of Miami Beach. We two separate Blackfin tuna fisheries. In the fall we see a big push of small to "foot ball" size fish, but there are a lot of fish. The Spellbound reported catching more than 60 fish in a day last fall. These fish move into the area in about 350' of water normally in October and may stay all through the winter . The second Blackfin tuna fishery is the Spring Migration. These fish are normally over ten pounds with an average weight of about 20lbs. Capt. Manny on the Spellbound reported catching a 42lb Blackfin this past Spring. These fish will have a tendency to mill around ship wrecks in as little as 60' of water and as deep as 400'. The best catches of fish were reported to be in about 200' of water where the North current of the Gulf stream and blue water flows over the wrecks. kite fishing with medium live bait and chumming with small live baits produced the best catches.
As the bait population continues to grow the game and sport fishing get's better and better the apex predator's population will also grow. We are talking about SHARKS! The Shark fishing off Miami is the best it's been in many many years. Captain Manny on the "Spellbound" has reported constant action with large sharks this past season. He also landed a giant 12 foot Hammer Head shark just a few weeks ago. The Spellbound also caught and landed the only Mako Shark this season. This 7+ foot shark was captured on the fringe of a large school of Blackfin Tunas. The bait used was a 5lb tuna freshly caught from the same school of Tuna they were fishing next to.
The bottom line is that if you are visiting Miami you should take the time to do a little deep sea fishing. The sport fishing has been great these past few years and you are assured to have a great time. Just remember to wear a hat and sunglasses and just don't forget your camera.
