February 6, 2010 - Doug Spears’ new CD, Welcome Home, a celebration of the heart, history and culture of Florida, has grabbed the attention of Folk Radio DJs and their audiences worldwide. Released January 1, 2010, Welcome Home debuted on the International Folk DJ Chart as the #3 album in January and the opening cut of the album, Yellow Butter Moon, charted at #3 for individual songs. The Folk DJ Airplay Charts are compiled by Richard Gillmann of KBCS-FM in Washington from radio DJ playlists worldwide submitted to the FOLKDJ listserve maintained by Information Technology Services at Penn State University. Doug Spears also charted as the #5 folk artist worldwide in January based on total airplay.

“It’s so gratifying for the music to be so well received both here at home and internationally. It really makes all of the hours we poured into producing this project well worth it.” said Spears. “It's a very good morning waking up to the No 3 Cd and No 3 song of the month. Florida should be so proud of what Doug has accomplished here.” said Kari Estrin, Kari Estrin Management & Consulting in Nashville upon learning of the chart position. Estrin is handling promotion of Welcome Home to folk, acoustic and Americana radio formats. While Yellow Butter Moon received the most individual plays, all tracks of the album have received airplay throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Welcome Home is the masterful result of the collaboration of Spears, the songwriter, storyteller and performer, and Jason Thomas, the consummate musician, arranger and producer. Conceived as an album to portray Florida as it truely is, not as it is often perceived, the album blends the finest from Florida's considerable reservoir of musical talent with some of the most celebrated acoustic musicians that Nashville has to offer. As fiddle and mandolin player for the Grammy nominated Claire Lynch Band, Jason Thomas brought his own talents as well as those of Claire Lynch, Missy Raines, Rob Ickes, Jim Hurst, Mark Schatz and Kenny Malone to the project to compliment the contributions of Florida musicians Lis & Lon Williamson, Gabe Valla, Bob Rafkin and many more. The result is a show piece of exceptional musicianship, tight arrangements and varying styles produced superbly to elevate and support the songs delivered through Doug's distinct, rich vocals and guitar. Al Kniola, host of The Back Porch on 88.1 WVPE Public Radio, South Bend, IN predicts that Welcome Home is likely to be a top 30 pick for 2010. Steve Jerrett of KOPN's Sunday Morning Coffeehouse radio show in Columbia, MO (A Sing Out! Radio Partner) says “this CD is a treasure delivered by a master storyteller and true artist.”

In February Spears takes the CD on the road with shows in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi, including showcase performances at the North American Folk alliance Conference in Memphis. After that Spears returns to Florida for Steve Fest, in Punta Gorda, FL Feb. 26 - 28, staged in memory of Florida educator and songwriter, Steve Blackwell, for whom the title track of the album, Welcome Home, was written and to whom the album is dedicated. Tracks from the CD can be heard in their entirety at Doug Spears’ website, www.dougspearsmusic.com, and may be purchased there or at CDBaby.com. The album will soon be available for download through iTunes and other mayor digital distributors.
