Florida PKU Foundation to Host Golf Themed Dinner and Silent Auction

Palm City (February 23, 2012) - The Florida PKU Foundation (floridapku.org), a local organization devoted to families and friends who are challenged by PKU, is proud to announce their upcoming event, “Play Around For PKU”, to be held at the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance in Port St Lucie on Saturday, March 10th.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder in which individuals are born without an enzyme necessary for processing a specific part of protein called phenylalanine (PHE). If untreated, high levels of PHE can affect brain development, resulting in mental retardation and neurological disorders.

David Donatucci, Director of Fitness and Performance for the PGA (Professional Golfers Association), is the founder of Florida PKU Foundation and his 6 year old son has PKU. “Originally, I wanted to raise money for PKU research to find a cure for my son. After seeing other families suffer with the financial challenges of PKU and adults with PKU struggle to stay on treatment, I wanted to do more.” He is very proud to have an opportunity to spread the word and help families that have loved ones who suffer from this disorder.

Cocktails and appetizers will be served at 5pm followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30. Activities include a putting contest, closest to the pin contest, and “Golfzilla”. There will be a silent auction and raffle for a chance to win great prizes such as rounds of golf, golf lessons, and golf clubs and balls. There will also be a “Meet and Greet” with professional athletes!
