No one really thinks twice before printing a document. In fact, printing makes our lives convenient and stress free. But at the end of the year, when you look at the records, you will be shocked to see how much you end up spending on printers, cartridges, paper, electricity also. Well, you cannot stop printing or using the printer in your office because most of the productivity depends on machines likes faxes, copiers, printers etc. So the next best thing to do so is to use the printer and the print paper judiciously. Small things like switching off the printer when not in use, printing on both sides. Using black and white print when you are not scanning or printing pictures etc. Such small steps make a huge difference.
In fact, recently, research and studies have found out that that different font and font types use different quantities of ink. A fancy font uses more ink than a regular times roman or Ariel! There are also websites and companies which make something called as the "eco font" which decreases the consumption of ink in a big way and as the name suggests is eco friendly! But you need to buy the rights to use the font!
There are ways and means and certain fonts which definitely go a long way in saving ink which ultimately will save you a lot of paper, cartridges and electricity! A widely popular font, century gothic is supposed to save ink. A lot of universities and offices have made it mandatory that students and employees alike, should use this font and they are expected to save a big amount on annual printing bills. After century gothic, studies have shown times new roman to be ink friendly! Other finds are also comparatively better like Verdana, Ariel, Tahoma and calibri. Few fonts like times new roman and century gothic use 25% less ink than others. Thicker the font or more intense the font (with lines, curves etc), more the usage of the ink. But do remember that fonts like century gothic are wider than fonts like Ariel or times new roman. So if you are using century gothic, chances are you will end up printing more pages. So it is more like a trade off and the institution need to make a standardized rule so everyone is on the same page!
