(Free-Press-Release.com) February 26, 2011 --

Food security will become one of the top priorities in the coming years, worldwide, as imported food, even in Western countries, becomes more and more expensive, due to bad harvests worldwide, and worsening economic chaos caused by 'globalization'. Food prices are soaring and soon many people will find it hard to pay for a decent diet. Food security is under threat, even in rich countries such as the U.S. and the U.K., because they import much of their food from elsewhere. Everyone living in land-scarce cities everywhere should have access to knowledge about super-efficient, low-cost modern food growing methods that do not require access to tillable soil, so they can practice urban farming. There should be no need to self-identify as a gardener, farmer or have a mythical green thumb. Whether or not one chooses to grow some food, or practice urban farming, everyone should have the knowledge of how to do it using super-fertile technology such as aquaponics and hydroponics, which require very little space and water to grow up to 40% more food for the space used, than conventional soil agriculture. Aquaponics in my view is the cornerstone of true food security. The knowledge of how to grow food with aquaponics should be as basic and widespread as knowing how to cook it. I believe that food growing is personal and need not be a big business. You should be able to do it in your back yard or on the flat roof of your building. I also believe in the ancient chinese proverb credited to Lao Tzu -. "give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime. Books, videos and the diary of Diplo the Siamese Fighting fish, who lives in the bottom half of a tabletop aquaponics system, are also available from http://www.floatingworlds.co.uk, Floating Worlds Aquaponics.
