FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 9, 2010 --
With less than 100 days to go to the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals Norwegain Bjorn Heidenstrom is touring the refugee camps of Sudan. The lone cyclist has already been on the road for more than 8 months, having set off from his Oslo home in June of last year.
The Shirt 2010 project aims to improve awareness of the plight of the world's refugees and, at the same time, highlights the good work of the UNHCR in Africa and throughout the world.
As well as cycling several thousand miles, Heidenstrom is collecting hundreds of football shirts on his travels, which will eventually be sewn together to produce the world's biggest football shirt in time for the opening ceremony of the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
To date shirts have been contributed to the charity project from over 40 countries including Bhutan, Egypt and Kazakhstan. High profile signed shirts include those donated by Sir Elton John, UEFA President Michel Platini and Barcelona Football Club.
Heidenstrom moves on to Ethiopia next, with his route expected to take him through Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia in the coming weeks.
