Thomas J. Rundquist of Nova Counseling Associates Inc, a nova media unit has edited his article from ENTREPRENEUR Magazine's Management Smarts (May 1997).
"Keeping the Peace" Could your company or college be the target of a racial or gender discrimination lawsuit? Smaller companies are now immune and the risk is rising. The 1991 Civil RIghts Act allows lawyers in employment bias cases to charge double their usual hourly raes and sometimes more. Not surprisngly, discrimination cases are on the increase. In 2005, $378,000,000 were among the charges for nonlitigated settlements at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alone. And over 30,000 lawsuits are in Federal Courts...not counting State cases.
One way to protect your company or college is to be proactive: Analyze your employees' and if necessary, implement diversity training. Thomas Rundquist, Chairman of Nova Counseling Associates Inc. developed his tests in his original research at University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research's Library in 1968 while a graduate student at Eastern Michigan University (www.emich.edu ) . Graduate students have used his tests for their theses for over 15 years. Note that Mr. Rundquist is a Round Table Group Scholar (www.roundtablegroup.com ) for diversity issues.
The tests are reviewed in Mental Measurements Yearbook and TESTS IN PRINT. The Cultural Diversity Test uses a combination of true and false questions, multiple-choice questions, an Attributional Style Questionnaire, Discriminatory Response and an Attitudes Toward Diversity Scale to determine attitudes. The Racial Attitude Survey askes questions about physical appearance, ego strength (such as dominance, morality and control) and social acceptance about a race. A Statistics PhD will be interpreting after we reach a large enough test sample likely in the Fall.
