FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 5, 2010 --
Revelation PerformingARTS and Athletics U.Y.M, a Brooklyn-based 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit Community Youth Development Organization, Teen News Net, and Behind the Bench with Cornelius Ricks unite in Brooklyn, launching a 5-borough STOP THE VIOLENCE campaign that uses the arts to bring attention to the rise of youth violence in urban communities. Highlighting 20-10 civil rights issue that have gone unaddressed by too parents, community and church leaders; as well as politicians. Together, the Grassroots Consortium has over 40-years of community involvement; bringing notable judges into urban communities to address systemic two-law practice’s legal implications and effect on the disenfranchised and marginalized neighborhoods (Behind the Bench). In addition to hosting Christian Rap Concerts with such greats as Richie Righteous and Twyse -speaking life into young people; (RPAAUM INC), and mentoring adolescents-empowering them to be leaders in their community, writing about issues that concern youth (Teen News Net).
In coming together, Cornelius Ricks, Bryant Lewis and Bibi Chapman, the leaders of the Grassroots Consortium pray they will create a momentum; whereby, politicians and others will be forced to address beyond lip service with band aids that cover false promises. The Grassroots Consortium urges community members to come out in numbers sending a message that our children being murdered-murdering each other, dropping out of inferior schools, joining gangs, being locked-up, doing drugs, robbing stealing, menacing neighborhoods and babies-having babies, is not the legacy envisioned by those who gave their very lives.
Winner of the coveted Vernon Rice and Obie Awards, a “Day of Absence” is an amusing satire-reversed minstrel show recounting an uproarious emergency in a small fictitious Southern town faced with the sudden disappearance of all its Black citizens. Speaking to past truisms through laughter, the performance is done in white face with Black artists (reversed) adding to the realism of historic racism forcing audiences to reflect upon personal idiosyncrasies; creating an excellent environment for "Talk Back" Theatre. PERFORMANCE: Friday, March 5, 2010 (LAUNCH) SBC 820 Stanley Avenue, Brooklyn, New York (Corner Ashford and Stanley Avenues) Doors open at 6:30 PM, Taping begins 8:00 PM Sharp.
ENTERTAINMENT JUST ADDED: Solo Artist, TERRI CANN AKA "ROYALTY and WBLS "HUMMER"
