FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Social Worker Exposes Culture of Apathy in County Agencies
Ellis says county social agencies mired in indifference; leaders aware of problem but unwilling or unable to address it
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) February 16, 2010 --Psychotherapist Charles Ellis has overcome many seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his life, including an absent father, an impoverished childhood, and combat in Vietnam. None of this, however, prepared him for the pervasive culture of apathy and indifference he discovered when he accepted a position as program manager in a county social services agency.
In On County Time, Ellis details the smothering atmosphere of distrust, lack of concern—and even outright disdain—for clients, and unwillingness to work that he encountered in the agency. His attempts to improve the work environment and actually serve the clients were met with disbelief and outright hostility, leading to unfounded accusations of sexual harassment that eventually cost him his job.
Rather than remain bitter and slink silently into the sunset, Ellis decided to do the right thing for the clients he wanted so badly to help: expose this culture of apathy and suggest ways to change it for the better. On County Time does just that, with a shocking look at day-to-day operations in a typical county agency, followed by a discussion of concrete actions that can be taken to change this unconcerned mindset and reinvent social service agencies, allowing them to provide the services they were created to provide.
Informative and eye-opening, On County Time will give readers much to think about and perhaps lead to a grassroots movement to improve the level of care provided by local social services agencies.
Ellis is a licensed psychotherapist, with over 25 years’ experience in the field. He has developed several businesses, as well, all of which advanced his goal of serving those with mental and emotional problems.
