Forest Concepts Granted Core U.S. Patent for Bioenergy Feedstock Materials

Forest Concepts has patented a novel class of flowable biomass feedstock particles for biofuel.

Seattle -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Oct 13, 2011 -- AUBURN, WA – October 12, 2011 - Today Forest Concepts announce that the U.S. Patent Office has granted the following patent:

o U.S. Patent No. 8,034,449, issue date October 11, 2011, entitled ENGINEERED PLANT BIOMASS FEEDSTOCK PARTICLES

Forest Concepts has patented a novel class of flowable biomass feedstock particles with unusually large surface area to volume ratios that can be manufactured in remarkably uniform sizes using low energy comminution techniques. The particles exhibit a disrupted grain structure with prominent end and surface checks that greatly enhance their skeletal surface area as compared to their envelope surface area. The feedstocks can be manufactured from a variety of plant biomass materials including wood, crop residues, plantation grasses, hemp, bagasse and bamboo.

According to Dr. James H. Dooley, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder, “Being able to produce uniform precision biomass feedstocks from a variety of plant biomass should improve the economics of second generation liquid transportation fuels.”

Additional U.S. and international patent applications are pending.
