Former Akadema Youth Players Shine In NCAA Super Regionals

Hawthorne, NJ – June 15, 2010 – Akadema’s youth academy, Pro Player Baseball Academy, watched as two of its former players excelled in this past weekend’s NCAA Super Regionals. Coastal Carolina Second Baseman, Tommy LaStella, led his team to a 55-10 record this season, his first with the team. The red shirt sophomore batted .378 with 66 RBI while leading his team in batting average, hits, and total bases since transferring from St. John’s University. LaStella attended Pro Player Baseball Academy while growing up in nearby Closter, NJ. The University of South Carolina eliminated Coastal Carolina University from the College World Series this weekend. Another Pro Player Baseball Academy student, Anthony Gomez, led his team to a 46-20 record and a berth in the NCAA Super Regionals. The Vanderbilt freshman second baseman hit .379 with 30 RBI, leading his team in batting average. Gomez was raised in Nutley, NJ and attended Pro Player Baseball Academy in his youth. Gomez’s Vanderbilt squad was eliminated from competition by Florida State University this weekend in the Super Regionals. Both LaStella and Gomez should receive some consideration for All-American and Freshman All-American, respectively.
