Atlanta, Georgia - February 23, 2012 - Extraordinary results are usually brought about by extraordinary people. Extraordinary is just one of the many positive adjectives which have often been used over the years to describe the talents and spirit of basketball star Chamique Holdsclaw. When it comes to basketball accolades and awards, you would be hard pressed to find another basketball player who has accomplished more or who has received more awards than the WNBA star. This year during the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament between March 1-4 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, the former University of Tennessee Lady Vols star will be honored as a SEC Great. The SEC Greats program honors former outstanding student-athletes from all 12 Southeastern Conference member institutions. Holdsclaw joins a list of other former Lady Vols who have also been honored like Daedra Charles, Nikki McCray, Kara Lawson and Tamika Catchings to name a few. She will be honored this year alongside other former SEC stars like former Vanderbilt standout and ESPN analyst Carolyn Peck and former Alabama star softball player and Olympic Gold Medalist Kelly Kretschman and a host of others. "I feel so blessed and humbled to be honored alongside this great class of fellow SEC alums. I am especially proud to join the list of other UT Lady Vols alum who have preceeded me with this honor. Coach Summitt and the University of Tennessee have both meant so much to me as a person and not just as a basketball player", says Holdsclaw about being honored as a SEC Great. The proud Queens, New York native has been busy preparing for the launch of her new book "Breaking Through: Beating The Odds Shot After Shot" which comes out in March.
