(Free-Press-Release.com) April 27, 2011 --

Mumbai: Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) –a unique partnership between Indiana University and Purdue University – is announcing annual USD$12,000 scholarships, renewable for up to four years for a total value of USD$48,000 per student, to recognize high-achieving Indian undergraduate students. The Chancellor’s Recognition Scholarships come with admission directly into the prestigious IUPUI Honors College and will be offered to high school seniors who are consistently earning “First Class” grades, minimum combined SAT I Math and Critical Reading test scores of 1250, and who qualify for admission to IUPUI no later than 1 February 2012. Already four students from Maharashtra State have been offered these prestigious scholarships for Fall 2011.

The IUPUI Honors College occupies newly designed facilities within the University Library, including exclusive computer lab and study areas for student members of the College. In the IUPUI Honors College, exceptional undergraduate students enjoy a dynamic academic experience within the university’s urban research environment. Students of the College have special opportunities to link to world-class faculty engaged in cutting edge and translational research, and earn an Honors notation on their degree upon graduation. Through the Honors Professional Admission Program, accomplished high school seniors may be considered for provisional admission to selected graduate and professional education at IUPUI. For more information, go to www.honorscollege.iupui.edu.

Making the announcement in Mumbai, Ms. Sara Allaei, Director of International Enrollment and Services said, “We have noticed a tremendous interest among well-qualified Indian students in the science and engineering programs offered at IUPUI.” Due to this strong interest, this year’s rate of admission of undergraduate Indian students is running approximately 50% higher than last year.

For the incoming Fall 2011 class, IUPUI has already offered more than $100,000 annually in scholarships to 17 undergraduate students from India, and it hopes to double these offers for Fall 2012. These scholarships are renewable annually, with potential to total more than $400,000 if students maintain GPA and other requirements of the scholarships. IUPUI’s strong external research funding base of more than USD$400 million annually also creates many opportunities for graduate students to attend IUPUI with research fellowships or assistantships. The estimated value of financial aid offered to new graduate students from India annually exceeds USD$500,000. IUPUI has twice been honored with the “University Scholarship Provider of the Year” Award, a national recognition based on quality of programming for scholarship recipients, effective scholarship administration, and strong retention and graduation rates for scholarship recipients.

IUPUI encourages academically motivated students from India to apply by December 1, 2011 for Fall 2012 and request for scholarships and financial aid.

Commenting on the unique aspects of the university, Ms. Allaei said, “IUPUI is ranked in the Top 5 of “Up-and-Coming” national universities by U.S. News & World Report (2011) and is among the Top 50 universities in the U.S. recommended to students by high school guidance counselors. Students appreciate the many resources that IUPUI offers within a friendly campus atmosphere, as well as the strong focus on academic success. Faculty is approachable, maintaining an open door policy and encouraging student research for both undergraduate and graduate students.”

IUPUI offers more than 10,000 classes, 250 degree programs, state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional faculty. Its 30,000+ students include 1400 international students from nearly 140 countries, including more than 240 from India. IUPUI encourages Indian students considering a degree in the US to explore program offerings at www.iupui.edu.

IUPUI Programs

Here are some of the notable programs available at IUPUI

• Energy Engineering. IUPUI is one of a handful of schools across the country to offer a Bachelor’s of Science in Energy Engineering. This Purdue University degree prepares students for careers in this rapidly-expanding industry. In a formal survey of industry leaders, IUPUI found a need to train engineers with the expertise to work in and develop this growing industry, and responded by launching a program in Energy Engineering. An excellent example of exceptional IUPUI faculty involved in this program is Professor of Mechanical Engineering, M. Razi Nalim, Ph.D., P.E., one of the leading faculty of the Energy Engineering program. After graduating from IIT Kanpur, Dr. Nalim earned his Ph.D. at Cornell
