On Friday, Oct. 14, the Four Tops and The Temptations will fill the entertainment hall with their jiving and soulful songs.

The Four Tops are an American vocal quartet founded in Detroit, Mich., whose musical genre has included doo-wop, soul, R&B, disco, rock and showtunes. The group originally had the same group of four singers from their founding in 1953 until 1997 – lead baritone singer Levi Stubbs, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Renaldo “Obie” Benson and Lawrence Payton.

Over the years they had several hit singles including “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There.” Today, Fakir is the only surviving founding member of the original group. Fakir now sings with Theo Peoples, Harold “Spike” Bonhart, Ronnie McNeir and Lawrence Payton’s son Roquel Payton.

One of the most successful acts to ever record for Motown Records is the American vocal group The Temptations. Founded in 1960 in Detroit, they have sung R&B, doo-wop, funk, disco, soul and adult contemporary music over their five-decade career.

Members have varied through the years, but The Temptations has always featured at least five male vocalists/dancers. They are known for their distinct harmonies, flashy suits and signature choreography and have been as influential to soul as The Beatles were to pop and rock.

The Temptations have sold tens of millions of records and are one of the most successful groups in music history. They continue to perform and record with one original living member, Otis Williams, still in the lineup. The Temptations have won three Grammy Awards among many other awards.
