FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rockford, Illinois, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) June 28, 2011 -- This Independence Day, celebrate freedom without breaking your budget. Holidays and special events such as Fourth of July weekend can be tempting opportunities to splurge. Family Credit Management offers some fun, family-friendly, and nearly free ideas on how you can enjoy this celebratory weekend.

It’s nice to get away from home, but save vacation plans for later. Stay at home this weekend, and relax with family and friends enjoying local activities.

Check with your local park district to get updated on this year’s Fourth of July celebration plans. Most park districts offer free festivals, parades, and firework shows that will offer entertainment for the whole weekend. Be sure to pack a cooler with food and beverages to avoid pricy snacks at these events.

Plan a potluck barbeque with your family and friends. A potluck will save everyone time and money, and still bring everyone together to celebrate and enjoy some All-American food.

Check with your village board ahead of time and plan a block party with your neighbors. Having the street open and safe for kids to play in will bring everyone together in a communal area.

If you feel the need to be extremely festive with clothing and decorations, avoid buying overpriced seasonal items and get creative at home. Rummage through your closet for any red, white, or blue clothing you have to piece together your own festive attire. Check dollar stores and the discount bins at craft stores for cheap decorations and supplies. Balloons, streamers, and window paint are cheap and decorative. Get your kids involved and sit down together to make some crafty homemade decorations. Gather up construction paper and make simple cut outs of stars, the liberty bell, Uncle Sam’s hat, or a red, white, and blue Garland chain. FCM encourages you to set a budget for decorations, and keep in mind that although fun and festive, they are not necessary.

With these friendly tips and reminders, Family Credit Management wishes you and your family a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend!
