FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 2, 2009 --
“As we enter into our fifth year of operation, FPSB is working to gain recognition of financial planning as a distinct professional practice and CFP certification as financial planning’s standard of excellence by regulators, consumer protection groups and other stakeholders,” said Corinna Dieters, 2010 FPSB Board Chairperson. “Ian’s considerable experience as a senior executive with regulatory bodies in Australia, Hong Kong and Dubai, and his standards-setting work as part of the global securities regulatory community, will be a welcome addition to FPSB’s Board of Directors as we define and establish professional standards and certification requirements for the professional practice of financial planning around the world.”
As deputy chief executive and managing director for Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), Johnston is responsible for regulatory policy, enforcement of financial services laws and provision of legal services. Over the past 10 years, he has held executive committee or commissioner level positions with three internationally respected regulatory authorities: Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and DFSA. In 2004, Johnston was named one of the “10 Most Influential People in Financial Services,” for his work on financial services reform at ASIC by Money Management magazine.
“I’ve dedicated my career to improving financial services industry standards, so joining the Board of FPSB, an organization that shares my mission of helping the public identify competent and ethical financial planners, is a logical choice for me,” Johnston said. “I look forward to helping FPSB develop, maintain and enforce consistent global standards, and to engage in public policy discussions about financial planning standards and oversight models that put the clients’ interests first.”
