Frankie Bordeaux Lauds the Power of College Foundation Boards

Frankie Bordeaux, a Greenville-based businessman who focuses on property management and real estate development, points to the importance of university foundation boards in a tough economy. Frankie Bordeaux currently serves on the Elizabeth City State University Foundation Board.

As the economy has nosedived, students have been forced to make serious choices when it comes to higher education, Frankie Bordeaux reports. Pointing to a University of California study, Frankie Bordeaux says that 62 percent of students reported that the economy affected where they attended school. Frankie Bordeaux notes, however, that this study only polled students currently attending four-year colleges, which didn't take into account the number of students who were forced to attend a two-year college or no college at all due to money concerns.

University foundations provide financial assistance to students by initiating and managing fundraising activities each year. As Frankie Bordeaux emphasizes, this assistance can mean the difference between a student being able to attend his or her first choice of college or having to settle for less. Many university foundations are 501(c)(3) organizations, allowing them to pass collected funds to students without paying exorbitant taxes on those funds.

Frankie Bordeaux has a personal connection to Elizabeth City State University, having attended the school. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and continued on to North Carolina Central University for his graduate studies. It is during this time that Frankie Bordeaux learned the value of an education, and, finding it so valuable, plans to finish a master's degree in the future.

œSoon after earning my bachelor's degree, I became involved with the Boys and Girls Club of America, Frankie Bordeaux explains. œIt is an organization that helps youth realize their fullest potential.

One of the most important things these young people can do for their futures is to attend college, Frankie Bordeaux states. But with high tuition rates at so many colleges, Frankie Bordeaux has found that many of these young learners are unable to attend college. Through his work with the university college foundation, Frankie Bordeaux believes he is able to help at least a few students achieve that goal. Frankie Bordeaux also encourages others to support their local university foundations.

For those interested in supporting a university foundation, Frankie Bordeaux suggests starting with one's own alma mater. Some university foundation supporters also choose to put their efforts into a local university in order to strengthen the community in which they live. One doesn't have to serve on a board or donate large sums of money to a university foundation to make a difference. He urges that even a small donation can help students receive educational opportunities they might not have otherwise.

Frankie Bordeaux is active in many civic organizations, including holding lifetime membership in the Omega Psi Psi fraternity. He believes in the value of being a part of a larger group, which helps with networking. Through working as part of a larger group, he is able to accomplish more than if he tries to tackle challenges on his own.
