Fred Clardige: Organization Fights for Senior’s Rights
(Las Vegas, NV) - Social Security and Medicare are under attack from all sides. Seniors are being treated as if we have no stake in proposed changes. The 2012 elections will help determine the future of these programs.
Sometimes it seems everyone is talking about what’s best for seniors without consulting us…as if “we’re not in the room”.
Seniors do care for this wonderful country. Many of us have served in her military. Many of our children have done so. We have parented the younger generations and have a deep interest in our legacy to and concern for our children and grandchildren.
Seniors participate in Social Security and Medicare. We have no choice. It has been the law. Deductions have been made from our paychecks and matching amounts from employers for our entire working careers. We were told this is our safety net. The Social Security Administration has proudly sent us yearly information regarding how much we would receive upon retirement. Now we are told these programs are (the new ‘dirty’ word) Entitlements. A driver’s license is an entitlement. The right to vote is an entitlement. Collecting insurance for which one has paid premiums is hardly an entitlement!
Our country has borrowed the moneys placed in trust for Social Security to fund other projects. This has been done under both Democrat and Republican administrations. There are claims actuaries miscalculated life spans. The President emphatically states there is almost $1.0 Trillion of fraud and waste in Medicare that can be saved from the program. Unfortunately, under the President’s Affordable Care Act, the government is to remove the phantom $660 Billion in savings and use that amount to fund a new program for the “under and uninsured” population. A new program designed to mirror Medicare? Huh?
Where were the senior advocates? America’s self proclaimed senior advocate group, AARP, supported the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare). Did their associate insurance sales business, underwritten by United Health Care, determine that position?
Did the American Medical Association really speak for Family health care providers, who will see their Medicare remuneration drop to 40% of other insured patients and forcing them to avoid Medicare patients?
We seniors control approximately $40 trillion in assets. We are a force with which to be reckoned. It’s time we protect the weakest among us. Let the Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and Tea Party advocates convince us. We deserve that respect.
