Free Camp for Plastic Surgery at Civil Hospital, Jalandhar

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 25, 2012 -- A free of cost plastic surgery camp will be organized at Civil Hospital, Jalandhar. The camp will be organized under the aegis of the International Society for Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (IPRAS) Women for Women. The camp will start on January 26th and will culminate on January 30th under the patronage of Dr. Avtar Chand MS, Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital, Jalandhar.

Well known Surgeons from USA are coming for the camp. This camp is supported by Sh. Anil Chopra (Chairman, St. Soldier Group), Dr. G.S Jammu (President, Jal. Chapter of ASI), Dr. Puneet Pasricha (President, North Zone APSI), Dr. Sanjiv Sharma (President, Rotary Club Jal. Central) and Dr. Gurpartap Singh (Secretary, Bapu Inder Singh Charitable trust).

IPRAS Women for Women is a charity programme supported by female plastic surgeons whose goal is to help women suffering from disfiguring or socially excluding injuries and trauma, with the goal of enabling such women to continue on to lead happy and prosperous lives despite their injuries and trauma they have suffered in the past.

The programme was developed by the Secretary General of IPRAS, the International Society for Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Marita Eisenmann-Klein, MD and the Chairperson of Quality Assurance of IPRAF, the International Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Foundation, Constance Neuhann-Lorenz, MD.

Women for Women’s first mission was conducted 2008 in Jalandhar, followed by missions in Kulu, Palampur and Lucknow in 2009. In all mission in India, women with mostly burn injuries were operated on by Women for Women’s experienced surgical teams.

The objective of the Women for Women programme is for patients to be treated in their local communities by international women plastic surgeons using local medical facilities, in cooperation with local medical professionals, and with the cooperation and support of national plastic surgical societies, or specific plastic surgery bodies, if they exist.

Akal Charitable Hospital an initiative of The Kalgidhar Society also organizes medical camps four times a year, where in specialists from USA and several states of India volunteer their services. Approximately 2000 patients attend each of these camps, where more than 100 operations are carried out absolutely free of cost.

A team of 15-20 Volunteer Doctors comes from USA to help at the camp. Surgery like Hernia, hysterectomy, Myringoplasty, Cleft lip and cleft palate, skin grafting, contractures following burns, all kinds of general surgeries and orthopaedic surgeries are done free of cost in these camps. Some of these operations would cost more than Rs. 100,000/- if they were performed in any private hospital in a city.

We can say that this camp will be beneficial for those needy and underprivileged sections of society who cannot afford the treatment in good hospitals.
