"2011 has been a difficult year for Japan and especially the Tohoku region" says Moses Musoke, co-founder of JOI. "Our Japanese online school received so much support from our current and even past students. We wanted to give something back in the best way we know how - by making more and better Japanese learning tools for our users and all Japanese learners to use for free."

JOI launched a Support Japan donation campaign in support of the Japan Red Cross Organization and raised over 400 thousand yen in the first month by collecting donations from students, staff and Japanese teachers. The campaign is still ongoing and continues to raise money for the victims of the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake and Tsunami.

The new daily videos using YouTube's embedded video service, consist 2 types of Japanese learning materials : Japanese Kanji and Japanese idioms.

The Kanji are aimed to aid Japanese language students preparing for the JLPT tests with initial emphasis being placed on the JLPT N4 and N5 levels but with plans to expand to JLPT N3, N2 and possibly JLPT N1 Kanji also to be included.
