These lessons can be over the phone, video chat, instant messaging, and/or a popular meeting tool allowing the participants to see the presenter’s screen. Topics such as social media, web cams, personal websites, and mobile device usage are the expected discussion topics and subjects for Q & A.

These are areas where technology has grown very quickly over the last few years and the ease of use has increased tremendously. Additionally, the perceived barriers to adoption have come down in many areas yet they often remain a barrier to communication between family members such as grandparents and grandchildren. A sample topic of discussion is how to post vacation pictures online and share them with friends and family instead of attaching individual pictures to multiple emails.

By registering for a service like MSN Messenger or Google Chat and signing in on a newer laptop, chances are that video chat is available. “The goal would be to take the user through the path of least resistance,” says Kidda. “I want to help de-complicate the web for people so they can communicate with loved ones more easily.” There are so many great free tools available. Someone with a Google, MSN, or Facebook account has access to all kinds of great communication tools, and they might not even know it.”

For more advanced users, free consultations on ecommerce, mobile, web design, SEO, Google Places, content management systems and more are available. This would be suited for a retiree with a part-time home-based business who wanted to maintain or increase his/her web presence.
