Although usually served as a digestif, Fernet Branca can be served on the rocks, with a splash of mineral water or in cocktails such as the Dr Zeus or the Hanky Panky Martini, shown below.

HANKY PANKY MARTINI


1 ¾ shots gin
1 ¾ shots sweet vermouth
1/8 shot Fernet Branca

METHOD: Stir all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange zest twist. This drink was created in the early 1900s at the Savoy’s American Bar for actor Charles Hawtrey. When he first tasted it, he exclaimed ‘By Jove! That is the real hanky-panky!’ Hence the name… Don’t you love a cocktail with a story?
