From Italy to Down Under… Australia makes its mark gelato

For this year’s Australia Day, in the height of Summer, one Sydney business has taken an Italian national treasure and made it true blue Aussie, through and through.

Gelato Messina, owned and operated by the Italian Australian Palumbo brothers, introduced five special “Australia Day” flavours for its diehard customers who queued on the footpath to secure their taste of these unique and imaginative treats.

Gelati Messina had this to say about their new range for the day ”We’ve called up some old mates to help us celebrate. There’s something for the sheila’s, a dead set ripper for the blokes, and even something for Nan. As always, unless you’re a few cans short of a six pack, you’ll know these specials are extremely limited and will be off faster than a bride’s nightie.”

And here are the flavours they sported on the day:

PAVLOVA - vanilla gelato with house made meringue, strawberry puree and passionfruit syrup..

LAMINGTON - milk chocolate and desiccated coconut gelato with vanilla sponge & raspberry

PEACH MELBA - white peach sorbet and vanilla cream gelato with freeze dried raspberries.

A FEW CANS SHORT - V.B. Sorbet – really wrong or really right.. We’re not sure.

TEA AND SCONES - tea gelato with scones and strawberry jam and cream.
