FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 29, 2009 --Urban Optiques Vision & Eyewear, one of Metro-Detroit’s fastest-growing premium optometry and eyewear boutiques, announces the addition of the Lanvin-Paris® and Chloé® eyewear lines to Urban Optiques’ expanding collection of designer and fashion eyeglasses and sunglasses.
Previously only available in Europe, Urban Optiques is the first Michigan eyewear boutique to carry the legendary Paris fashion house’s chic, sophisticated line of optical eyeglass frames and sunglasses. Lanvin-Paris Eyewear has been seen on celebrities ranging from Beyoncé Knowles , Rhianna and Jennifer Lopez to rocker Peter Wentz and Kourtney Kardashian , co-star of the E reality T.V. series “Keeping Up With The Kardashians.”
In addition to the Lanvin eyewear line, Urban Optiques also recently added Chloé Eyewear to its list of premium, French fashion eyewear brands. Chloé was the first French couture fashion house to produce high-quality, off-the-rack luxury clothing and its creator, Gaby Aghion , is credited with beginning the “Prêt-à-Porter” or “Ready-to-Wear” movement in fashion.
Luxury French Couture Eyewear Arrives In Metro-Detroit
Urban Optiques owner and lead optometrist, Dr. Michelle Calder Cardwell , says that the addition of these two premium French eyewear lines fills an under-served niche in the Metro-Detroit eyewear market: Young, stylish professional women and men and women who appreciate fashion-forward European eyewear.
“The Lanvin and Chloé brands capture the essence of sophisticated, French design -- both in their ready-to-wear and couture fashion collections and eyewear accessories,” explains Dr. Calder Cardwell. “While the Lanvin eyewear collection is bolder, more modern and provides styles that work for both men and women, Chloé is all about feminine sophistication. By carrying both of these premium eyewear lines, we’re able to offer our clients with a wide range of shapes, colors and materials to fit their own personal fashion aesthetic.”
Dr. Calder Cardwell also points out that there were some practical reasons for adding the two new designer eyewear lines.
“Lanvin’s eyewear styling is unique in that they tend to make their frames slightly wider than other designers,” explains Dr. Calder Cardwell. “This makes them perfect for people with broader faces who often have trouble finding eyewear that works with theifr facial structure.”
Dr. Calder Cardwell says the Chloé eyewear line was added to provide an additional exclusive French fashion brand for Urban Optiques’ growing clientele of young, stylish professional women .
“The Chloé designs are very popular with our younger, female clients who are looking for a sophisticated style that works equally well in and outside of the office,” explains Dr. Calder Cardwell. “These clients know the brand well and are very loyal to it. When we initially saw the collection, we were especially impressed with the way Chloé translated the soft, romantic and almost dream-like qualities of their ready-to-wear fashion into their eyewear accessories. There is a lot of continuity across their brand, which you don‘t always see with eyewear designers.”
The addition of Lanvin-Paris and Chloé eyewear to the Urban Optiques collection is part of the upscale eyewear boutique’s strategy of including niche luxury designer eyewear brands alongside more recognizable names like Prada, Miu Miu and Tom Ford.
“We try to go for both depth and variety in our in-house eyewear collections,” says Dr. Calder Cardwell. “While some of the brands may not be as recognizable with the general public as Prada or Chanel, many of our clients are already very familiar with these designers and brands and often own other fashion accessories or ready-to-wear items from their collections.”
“Plus, we really love the idea that we are exposing these exclusive, high-end brands to a new, receptive audience. Our clients tell us that they appreciate being the first to be seen in these new styles and designers.”
Both Lanvin-Paris and Chloé Eyewear is distributed by L’AMY America.
About Lanvin-Paris
The oldest continuously-operating French fashion house , Lanvin-Paris was officially founded in 1903 by Madame Jeanne-Marie Lanvin.
One of the most influential designers of the 1920s and ‘30s, Jeanne Lanvin’s skillful use of intricate trimmings, virtuoso embroideries and beaded decorations in clear, light, floral colors became a Lanvin trademark. Lanvin is also famous for her signature fragrance Arpège, which was inspired by the sound of her daughter practicing her piano scales.
In 2001, after decades of design drift under different ownership and management groups, Lanvin was taken private by investor group Harmonie S.A., headed by Mrs. Shaw-Lan Wang.
In 2001, Alber Elbaz was appointed Art Director at Lanvin, injecting new life into the venerable brand. Elbaz is credited for not only reviving Lanvin’s couture and read-to-wear designs, but has also led a complete overhaul of the brand, reinvigorating Lanvin with a modern edge that still remains true to Madame Lanvin's original vision.
In 2006, Elbaz introduced new packaging for the fashion house, featuring a forget-me-not motif -- Jeanne Lanvin’s favorite color palette. In addition to producing season-after-season of critically-acclaimed fashion collections, Elbaz also led the expansion of Lanvin’s product line, including its couture eyewear collection. In December, Lavin opened their first US boutique in Bal Habour, Florida.
Lanvin received national press in the United States when in May 2009, First Lady Michelle Obama was photographed wearing a pair of Lanvin suede sneakers with grosgrain ribbon laces and pink metallic toe caps during a volunteer even in Washington, D.C.
Other notable fans of Lanvin include Natalie Portman , Charlize Theron , Jessica Alba , Cameron Diaz and Katherine Heigl .
About Chloé
Founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, Chloé is credited with revolutionizing the French fashion industry by rejecting the stiff formality of 1950s couture fashion and creating high-quality, body-conscious off-the-rack clothing from fine fabrics which she called “luxury prêt-à-porter” - or “Ready-to-Wear.”
Headquartered in Paris, Chloé boasts an impressive alumni of superstar designers who honed their talents at the fashion house. Past artistic directors include Martin Sitbon in 1988 and Karl Lagerfeld in 1992. In 1997, Stella McCartney took over the helm of Chloé, pushing it in a new romantic and feminine direction that continues to this day under the artistic direction of designer Hannah MacGibbon .
Since its inception in 1952, Chloé designs have appeared on a wide-range of actresses and celebrities, including Grace Kelly , Brigitte Bardot , Jackie Kennedy-Onassis , Kirsten Dunst and Natalie Portman . The design house debuted its accessory eyewear line in 2008.
