FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Long Beach, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) October 14, 2010 -- Washington, DC – Conservatives from across the nation will meet in California this weekend to discuss the future of the conservative movement in the war of ideas against radical leftists. Young Americans for Freedom will sponsor a panel of conservative activists at the sixth annual Western Conservative Political Action Conference to discuss the Sharon Statement and its impact on the future of the conservative movement. The panel at Western CPAC will take place in Newport Beach, CA on Friday, October 15.

Dr. Lee Edwards, the nation’s leading historian of American conservatism and an original signer of the Sharon Statement, will host the panel discussion featuring Florida YAF State Chairman Daniel Diaz, Maryland YAF State Chairman Adam Cassandra, Jeffrey Wienir, Director of Campus Campaigns at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, Steve Macias, a field agent for Students for Life of America, and Nicole Stygar, field coordinator for Grassroots Outreach.

The Sharon Statement, adopted at Sharon, Connecticut in 1960, is the statement of principles that gave birth to YAF and the modern conservative movement in America.

“In the current political atmosphere, conservative activism is absolutely essential,” said Diaz, a successful organizer of conservative groups across Florida. “It’s great to see so many activists coming together for this discussion to talk about their experiences and involvement in the conservative movement.”

Diaz was recently thrown off campus at Palm Beach State College in Florida for trying to recruit conservatives to YAF. A lawsuit against the campus is pending.

“The Sharon Statement started a revolution in this country through conservative activists spreading the principles of constitutional government, individual liberty, free markets, and a strong national defense,” said Maryland YAF’s Adam Cassandra.

Cassandra recently organized conservatives in support of a Maryland business owner censored for supporting Arizona’s immigration law. CASA de Maryland, a pro-illegal immigration group similar to La Raza, called the First Amendment censorship “some positive signs for change.”

“Conservative youth in America are more energized, and also more under attack, than ever,” Cassandra said. “We need the principles and guidance of the Sharon Statement just as much now as we did in 1960.”

YAF is the nation’s oldest conservative youth organization, and currently supports active chapters across the country. About 90 young people at the Sharon, Connecticut estate of William F. Buckley, Jr. gathered to lay the groundwork for a national conservative revolution in 1960. YAF is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and will hold its national conference on Saturday, October 16 in Irvine, CA.
