Frisco facility sets bar high for kettlebell training

November 22, 2011- Frisco, TX- Full Throttle Athletics, the only fitness facility in the North Texas area to offer authentic Russian kettlebell training, sent 3 competitors to Detroit, MI to compete in the IKFF (International Kettlebell & Fitness Federation) National Championship on November 19th.

Full Throttle Athletics is proud to announce that its very own Amanda Wegner, Suzanne Hernandez, and BJ Bliffert competed this past Saturday at the IKFF National Championship. Much to the excitement of the entire FTA family and Frisco area, the FTA-trained competitors returned to Texas with medals, pride, and valuable competition experience.

The 3 FTA competitors participated in the IKFF Long Cycle event. Long cycle is an exercise in which the athlete cleans the kettlebell to his/her chest (“rack position”) and then performs a jerk into an overhead arm lockout position. In kettlebell sport, the long cycle is performed continuously for as many repetitions as possible without setting the kettlebell down for a duration of 10 minutes. Judges count and grade each lift.

Amanda Wagner, currently a full-time social science major at the University of North Texas, has been receiving kettlebell training from Full Throttle Owner and professional kettlebell athlete, BJ Bliffert for 1.5 years and has lost nearly 100 pounds along the journey. At the IKFF National Championship, Amanda finished 2nd in her weight class. Wagner performed 113 long cycle repetitions with a 16kilogram kettlebell (35lbs) within 10 minutes.

Suzanne Hernandez, 46, mother of two and a 6 month Full Throttle Athletics member, has also been training under the direction of Bliffert. Hernandez completed 119 long cycle repetitions with a 12kg ketttlebell within 10 minutes, which landed her 1st place in her weight class.

BJ Bliffert, Owner and Director of FTA, has been training and studying kettlebell sport/technique for over 10 years. In May 2011, he traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia for an intensive ten day training camp with world champion coaches Sergey Rudnev and Sergey Rachinskiy who specialize in kettlebell training. Bliffert competed in the IKFF National Championship, receiving 3rd place in his weight class. Bliffert competed with 2 24kg kettlebells (53lbs) and also performed 45 continuous long cycle repetitions.

BJ Bliffert continues to seamlessly integrate kettlebell movements into the daily training programs of his Full Throttle Athletics clients. “Kettlebell training is perfect for workouts, regardless of the individuals’ fitness goals”, states Bliffert. “ I use this tool for clients who desire weight-loss, athletes who train for marathons and triathlons, and individuals who simply want substantial gains in strength. The kettlebell is an amazing tool because of its incredible efficiency and the full body workout it acheives.”

“I am incredibly excited that many of our members have taken such an interest in serious kettlbell training,” adds Bliffert. “Kettlebell sport and competition is steadily gaining more traction and receiving more attention in the United States. It is a Russian-native training tool, and has been popular in Eastern Europe for hundreds of years.”

“I love introducing kettlebells to my clients and gladly take the time to provide more intense kettlebell training for individuals who express a deeper interest. I look forward to continuing the Authentic Russian kettlebell training that we offer here at Full Throttle Athletics. I am extremely proud of our kettlebell athletes and I am confident that more individuals will come forward with the desire to train and compete in future kettlebell competitions.”
