Fundraising4change Ltd delves into the exciting breed of female entrepreneurs

(Free-Press-Release.com) December 22, 2011 -- Fundraising4change initially looked at the facts: Canadian women business owners and self-employed workers represent an untapped source of economic opportunity. In 2007, women retained ownership in 47% of Canada’s 1.6 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and majority female ownership of 16% of Canadian SMEs.1 Majority women-owned small and medium-sized enterprises represented over $117 billion per annum of economic activity in Canada.

Fundraising4change Ltd acknowledges that is a 20 percent increase in total revenues among majority female-owned enterprises which will contribute an additional $2 billion per annum to the Canadian economy.
Fundraising4change Ltd went onto explain that In addition, between 1999 and 2009, the number of self-employed females increased by 13 percent compared with 10 percent for men. Today, over 900,000 of the 2.6 million self-employed workers in Canada are women. This represents a second significant pool of enterprising women.

Fundraising4change Ltd discussed the reasoning behind such business ventures, and were brutally honest; The Managing Director who too is a successful business women explained how times have indeed changed, she enlightened me with the concept that what worked for our grandmothers and mothers is not working for the majority of us, our daughters and our granddaughters to come, and that now was the time for women to get smarter with their money. She continued with facts that 47% of women over the age of 50 are single. 50% of marriages end in divorce, and in that first year after divorce, a women’s standard of living drops an average of 73%. Out of the elderly living in poverty, three out of four are women, yet 80% of these women were not poor when their husbands were alive. Her ending point was that 90% of women will be solely responsible for their financial well being within their lifetime, Women need to invest in themselves and so it would seem a new breed of entrepreneurial females were created, in a time of need.

After my time with the Managing Director of Fundraising4change Ltd I came away understanding that women can pretend not to be smart, they can pretend to be silly and confused when it came to finance, they can hide behind the role of “the women behind the man” (whether that be their boss or partner) But this is indeed just an ancient stereotype which is fading out. The bottom line is women are smart, and truth be told they always know more than they let on, they have an uncanny common sense and priceless intuition. Times have change and are continuing to change, times will always change, and with that so are women.

Fundraising4change Ltd insisted that although they were excited at the new growth in predominantly female led businesses, they did not see it as a slight on male entrepreneurs, and could see benefits in both genders in business, and that each could prosper from the other. They saw it as a positive for the economic climate in a time when other countries are struggling Canada pushes on.
