Eligible residential customers of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas can now apply for a low-interest loan to purchase a high-efficiency furnace through the Illinois Energy Efficiency Loan Program. A loan through the program can be paired with a rebate for a qualifying furnace through the Peoples Gas or North Shore Gas Natural Gas Savings Programs for even greater value. Installments on the loans will be conveniently included on the monthly gas bills.

Here are a few highlights of the Illinois Energy Efficiency Loan Program:

-Financing provided by AFC First Financial Corporation, a national leader in residential energy-efficiency lending programs;
-Owners of single-family homes, condos and multi-unit buildings with no more than four units are eligible;
-Applies to natural gas furnaces rated at least 92 AFUE;
-Loans of up to $20,000 available to cover materials and labor;
-4.99 percent interest rate on terms of 3, 5 or 10 years;
-No down payment required; and

-Work must be performed by approved contractors/dealers.

With these two programs at work for Chicago residents, there is no reason to hold off on a new high efficiency furnace purchase before these single digit temperatures set in.
