During a short well-received speech to the troops at the Darwin RAAF Base, President Obama said,

‘‘Thank you for representing the very best of our two countries,'' he says.

As customary for visiting dignitaries, the Australian Government, provided a range of gifts, one of which was crocodile insurance, provided by Paul Henderson, Northern Territories chief minister, prompting Mr Obama to say,

''I was just presented with the most unique gift I've ever received as President. Crocodile insurance. My wife, Michelle, will be relieved.''
