Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series 2010

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 5, 2010 -- Jakarta, 17 Maret 2010 – After successfully managed Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series and Garuda Indonesia Masters for the last 2 years in national level, Sportama again in 2010 organizes Garuda Indonesia Tennis Series with 9 tournaments, which is the largest series of tournaments in history of Indonesian tennis.

Angelique Widjaja as the initiator of Sportama stated that among those 9 tournaments ,there are 3 men’s futures and 3 women’s circuit and 3 national tournament collaborated with other sponsors. “Based on input from players, coaches, organization and personal experience, we decided to organize international tournaments for men and women for the purpose to develop playing and competition skills for our national athletes and to provide an event for them to earn ITF points,” explained Angie. “The opportunity to compete with players from other countries is very limited for Indonesian athletes. The cost is the main obstacle. While without competing with foreign players, we cannot analyze and measure opponents skills. It is impossible for our athletes to improve if they don’t get the opportunity to compete with international players. For the sake of national tennis development, we decided to introduce 6 ITF tennis tournaments in Indonesia,” Angie continues.

Located in various big cities in Indonesia from March to December 2010 with total prize money +/- US$150.000. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is back as the main sponsor just like the previous 2 years. “ We realized that beside national point, our athletes also need to earn ITF points in order to reach the strategic position when competing internationally. It is Garuda Indonesia commitment to continue to support various events which can improve Indonesia name at international stage. Let’s bring back Indonesia tennis glory in Asia,” stated Emirsyah Satar, President Director of Garuda Indonesia.
Teddy Tandjung as the Tournament Director hopes that the commitment from Garuda Indonesia along with Sportama to improve Indonesia tennis can be utilized by Indonesian athletes. “From our previous experiences, it’s not easy for our men or women players to be the best in circuit or futures, but don’t be discouraged, I’m sure our players have the added motivation and with our support from playing in front of Indonesian people,” Teddy said.
