Expected release in December “Murder on Michigan Avenue,” is the final chapter in Jere Myles’ three-part murder mystery series. “Murder Behind Closed Doors,” was released this summer. “Murder on the Pier,” was released two years ago. The following has been growing ever since.
Right in the middle of don’t ask don’t tell and the discussion on gay-marriage, Myles books resonate with mystery and people want to know what happened. There is tension, exciting dialogue and a passionate interest comparable to Proulx’s short story ‘Brokeback Mountain.’, or Forrester’s 'Maurice.'
All three books are set in Chicago in the 1990s, with the Chicago police department one of the principal antagonist in the story.. Jon & Mieko’s story is punctuated by memorable characters like a football coach who can’t get a job because he’s gay but winds up on a southern campus where he must start his life over. There’s a priest who belongs on a GQ cover, a police lieutenant whose tenacity rocks the city with his discovery of corruption in the police department, as well as a songstress who proves to be key to all of it. Jon & Mieko’s story provides an excellent argument for gay marriage or civil unions.
‘No one cares whether you live or die unless you care,’ one of the principal characters states as Myles has written people who give their lives for their beliefs. These are people you know and they stay with you, even after you close the book. They beg you listen and anger you as you wonder why someone would kill someone just because of who they love.
Whether you’re gay or straight, Myles’ books shatter your understanding of today’s gay culture; force you to think while helping build an understanding with your partner that a society that marginalizes love it can’t understand is dated. Jon and Mieko show you how to get to a place to handle change because their love was an instrument of change, before it was shattered.
“A page turner,” as one reviewer stated: “I couldn't stop reading after a couple of chapters. I was too caught up in plot and character.” Another states: “Murder Behind Closed Doors is every bit as intriguing as Murder on the Pier.…The detailed descriptions of the characters are so precise that it gives one a feeling of understanding the specific circumstances surrounding each particular character. The relationships between the characters and the great details of each allow me to relate my own life to the characters in the series.”
These are books about love and hate. More than anything else, they’re about making a change and understanding that people are people, no matter who they love. This murder mystery trilogy is destined to be more than casual conversation at clubs, across dinner tables, even in courts and college classrooms, as these two men take on the Chicago establishment. They are Goliath killers with an array of characters who feel the time has come to stop the hypocrisy of loving the sinner and hating the sin. Will they win? Get the book and find out. You simply can’t put it down.
Available on kindle, the intrigue mounts as the third book reveals who’s behind the murders. Answers the questions as new characters like Jere Legg, a gay former Dolphins’ star comes on the scene to coach running at Ole Miss. Get the other two now so you’ll know the story before “Murder on Michigan Avenue” hits the bookstores. Be the first to share with your friend as you try to figure out why anyone would want to kill someone only because they can’t understand how they love someone else.
