If you or anybody you know suffers form gender identity there is fantastic tidings in the publishing of a new e-book specifically written to cover issues of sexuality and how it develops. The new study will be welcomed with open arms by the trans-gender world. There are so many different terms in the gender identity world that the first thing the author felt was needed was to cut to the chase and define all the myriad of terms one comes up against from Gender identity disorder, gender dysphoria, tans-gender, transsexual and so on.
Gender can be affected by factors beyond a baby's control which occur in the womb. The development of the fetal brain is driven by hormonal factors which the book looks at in detail. There is a rising body of scientific material to endorse the idea that our gender identity is shaped by these hormonal issues which all tends towards discrediting the theory that gender development is moulded by our surroundings.
There is a substantial body of study which now clearly proves that our gender identity is moulded in the womb in early pregnancy if there is an under or over supply of certain hormones such as androgens, estrogens and testosterone.
In a number of cases in the early 1970's, gender development is understood to have been considerably affected by exposure of the mother to a controversial drug known as Deithylstilbestrol (DES)
One of the results was the birth of the occasional child which was born with 'uncharacterized genitalia' and the pressure this placed on parents and medical people alike, as there was a desire to accurately fill out a birth certificate and of primary importance was to label the child, a 'girl' or a 'boy'.
In some pressing cases medical intervention was the last resort since it was felt that the best course of action was to make a decision and act on it while the baby would not recollect any of what had transpired. Research has shown that many such children later express great dissatisfaction with their genitalia and the choices made for them by their parents.
