Vacuum metallizing has become a viable substitution technology, depositing thin ‘nanometer’ metal coatings onto polymeric substrates. The integrity of this extremely thin metal layer is found to provide an excellent barrier to light, water vapour, oxygen as well as other gases and aromas.
