Georgia Locksmith Regulation by Armor Lock & Safe

A hot topic for the locksmith industry right now is regulation. Here in Georgia, House Bill 107 would introduce the first piece of regulation to the states locksmith industry. Most people incorrectly assume that locksmiths must be licensed, carry insurance and go through some type of back ground check. Unfortunately, that could not be further from the truth.

It is rare that an industry actually asks to be regulated, but that is exactly what has happened here in Georgia. The locksmith/security industry has been plagued by deceptive, unlawful and unscrupulous individuals for far too long. Bad security professionals, whether they are local companies performing bad work or the out of state call centers that have sprung up over the past several years are hurting the industry and the public’s trust and perceptions of us.

You can view House Bill 107 by clicking here, it follows a trend in states adding regulation to the locksmithing industry. Georgia actually falls behind many states, even other southern states such as Alabama, which have already enacted and put into place locksmith regulation.

Of equal importance as the actual regulation will be its enforcement. Without severe monetary penalties or criminal charges the legislation will have been wasted. Severe penalties are needed in order to clean up the locksmith industry here in Georgia.
