Get Self-Employed: An Update from the Un-Job Fair at Colorado Free University in Denver by Mike Farrell with aspenIbiz

The opening session was delivered by Barbara Winter of Winning Ways and she discussed how to make a living without a job. Barbara covered a variety of topics such as how to find an opportunity in a chaotic economy; why smart, small, and spunky is the new business model for the 21st century; and how to leave employee thinking behind and build an entrepreneur’s mindset.

The next session provided a variety of small business ideas that you can start quickly and cheaply. This session was presented by Steve Veltkamp with BizShop.

Farrell said that Steve started his session by providing 10 key low cost to no cost actionable items that small businesses and entrepreneurs can use immediately. These items spanned items such as obtaining a FREE phone number for your business using Google Voice to a very low cost way for merchants to take credit cards using a FREE and small credit card reader from SquareUp that plugs into an existing jack of your mobile smart phone turning it into a Point Of Sale device.

Additionally, throughout the day, various breakout sessions were conducted covering topics such as turning ideas into sellable products, using the Internet to market your products and services, creativity in entrepreneurship, and many more.

Finally, Tama Kieves, a leading life work coach, tied it all together by stating that everyone was at the day long workshop because they were, most likely, searching for a way to get self employed. She surmised that many were probably still employed somewhere, had a successful career, and have hit a roadblock. Kieves asked, “if you are this successful doing work you do not love, what could you do with work you do love?” She shared breakthrough techniques that have helped thousands worldwide to catapult their creativity, vision, or business into the world and pay their bills at the same time.

As the event was ending, Farrell commented, “there were many like-minded, passionate, and high-energy entrepreneurs, that came together today to obtain more self employment education and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities so they can generate the lifestyle they want to live.”
