Get Your German On this September 23rd! Music, Food and Beer Collide as Atwater and UAW Region 1 Present Oktoberfest at Chene Park (Leiderhosen Optional).

But, our Bohemian rhapsody goes way beyond Kindergarten. Especially this September 23, 2011, when Chene Park, Atwater Brewery and the UAW Region 1 hosts the First Annual Oktoberfest. This festival of beer, brats, bands and fun will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and everyone over 21 is Willkommen.
The event was the brainchild of Mark Rieth of Atwater Brewery, who envisioned bringing a little taste of Germany downtown for all to enjoy.

"Every great city celebrates Oktoberfest with a festival like this," said Rieth. "I don't remember the last time Detroit had something like it. Why do we have to drive an hour and a half to Frankenmuth to celebrate our German ties and heritage? This event is going to be huge for the city of Detroit."
Tied into this Uber-festival is the release of Atwater's newest beers. Many of which will be available at the event for $1 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Including Atwater's Bloktoberfest beer and Atwater's Lager, a Munich-style Helles Lager--made in the Detroit tradition of German-Style lagers and served in a can.

And, if that weren't Zeitgeist enough, both and will be entertaining the crowd with their interpretation of various German (and American) favorites. There will also be traditional brats and pretzels, German dancing and more!
