Los Angeles, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) September 16, 2011 -- Los Angeles – Melanie Pozez, Director of Bark Avenue Foundation, announces the third annual Get Your Licks On Route 66, Downtown’s biggest-ever pet-adoption-and-services event, hosted by Bark Avenue Foundation and North Shore Animal League, and coinciding with National Puppy Mill Awareness Day.

Get Your Licks On Route 66, Downtown’s biggest-ever pet-adoption-and-services event. Hosted by Bark Avenue Foundation and North Shore Animal League. The event will be held Saturday, September 17th, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main St. (part of historic Route 66) between 5th and 6th in Los Angeles.

Dozens and dozens of shelter dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and bunnies will be available for adoption, with free gifts for their new owners. Pets are welcome at the event and there’ll be free vaccinations and microchips while supplies last.

Other free services, such as nail trimming and ear cleaning will be provided courtesy of Bark Avenue, plus free ID tags, training-tips and pet-services will be available. A festival atmosphere with a “bark park”; DJ; food trucks; and a program saluting local animal advocates will take place, with celebrity guests including KTLA’s Lu Parker, actress Elaine Hendrix, and actor Orlando Brown, who’ll be screening his new music video, "Heroes".

Main St. will be closed to cars between 5th and 6th, but open to pedestrians. Retailers on the block will be open for business. Lot and garage parking will be available at the corner of Main and 6th.

Bark Avenue Foundation promotes spay/neuter services, rescue, adoption, and humane education. With a special commitment to the Downtown and South L.A. communities, its mission is to significantly reduce pet overpopulation, save animals from abuse and euthanasia, and help relieve the economic burden on the city’s shelter system by creating and nurturing loving owner-and-pet relationships.
