Getting A Spanish Driving License In Spain
After five years of using an English driving license expat Keidi Keating finally takes the plunge and applies for a Spanish license

English people can usually get away with using an English driving license, even if they have taken residency in Spain. But if the photo-card expires then problems can arise.
If an expat in Spain no longer has a UK address, honesty is the best way forward. The DVLA staff in the UK can’t help if an expat no longer has a UK address. They will tell expats to seek assistance from the Spanish authorities.
Like many things of an ‘official’ nature in Spain, that isn’t as simple as it sounds. The easiest route is to go to your nearest trafico office with your passport, residents document, two passport sized photos and 56€ to cover tax payments and a medical certificate.
Once you have been seen to that’s all there is to it. The officials say they will call when your driving license is ready.
