Ghost Hunting At The Lawn, Formerly The Lincoln Lunatic Asylum, With Simply Ghost Nights - 12th February 2012

The Lawn is a Greek style building with it's four columns and Doric entrance it is truly an architectural materpiece, it's name is derived from the sprawling area in which it is situated. The Lawn was opened under the stewardship of the Reverend Doctor Willis in 1820 as the Lincoln Lunatic Asylum. It was one of the first asylums in the U.K, to treat patients with a caring and sympathetic manner, rather than the oppressive restrain and isolation method that was prevelant at the time.

It is said historically that the site was once a Roman burial ground, and was also used to bury the plague victims in the 17th century too. What will we unearth when we begin to dig deep ourselves and investigate the paranormal world of the The Lawns?

We were told that staff have heard the sounds of approaching footsteps with no one else in the vacinaty to have been responsible for the sounds. In some areas of the building it has been noted that the atmosphere is that heavy and sinister that visitors and staff have felt nauseous and afraid.

Ghostly whispering is said to be heard by staff and visitors when alone in certain rooms, and the feeling of been touched by unseen hands is also an occurrence that as frightened and terrified many people. On a previous ghost night we experienced in the Lawrence hall with Rosey who described how the table danced along the wooden floor with each participants fingers slightly on the table, at one point Jo our intrepid investigator moved further away from the table and asked the table to follow, the table duly obliged in following Jo, This delighted Sarah and Norman as well as others who had been on Ghost Hunts before but claimed to have never seen a table move in such a way.

In one of the upstairs rooms Stuart felt the spirit of a female called Francesca in the room, a séance was then started and the spirit of Francesca did indeed make contact with Emma, Sally, Megan, and the group of brave ghost hunters asked many questions to Francesca, who through glass divination informed the group that she had being a resident of the lawns due to the fact that she had given birth to an illegitimate girl called Elizabeth, this revelation had a sobering effect on the group and brought Cheryl, Sian and Lisa near to tears.

Staff have noticed dark shadows moving around in rooms that are unattended and doors mysteriously open and shut by themselves. The unexplained loud and aggressive banging that is also heard in the building is another phenomenon that we will try to solve as we trawl the dark murky depths of this former asylum.

With so much activity and a colourful past you would have to be mad to miss this event.
