Glamour DMC Helps to Diversify Jamaica’s Tourism Product

This new attraction marries culture and tourism together to provide visitors with a comprehensive experience of the local heritage, food and adventure tours in one package, while providing something new for the discerning visitor who wants more than just sun, sea and sand.

The country bus concept while not entirely new to Jamaica is intended to help diversify Jamaica’s Tourism product and build on the growing trend for authentic cultural experiences by promoting a greater cultural immersion for local and overseas visitors beyond the more common one- off experiences afforded by the traditional cultural sites.

An upbeat Myrtle Dwyer, Director with responsibility for sales and Marketing at Glamour DMC noted that “while already existing cultural tours such as the plantation tours, historical and cultural sites, and adventure tours are a good beginning in Tour Operators’ attempt to link Culture and Tourism, ‘De Country Bus’ will bring visitors to the heart of the Jamaican Culture.”

‘De Country Bus’ is the most comprehensive of its kind in Jamaica. The new attraction is an old School bus which has been remodeled into a Jamaican Market Bus which was used to transport market vendors in the early 19th century. The new attraction will be used to transport visitors to their desired location anywhere in Jamaica. ‘De Country Bus’ has the capacity to seat up to 25 persons at any given time and can also be used as a means of transfer for special events such as weddings, birthdays or any themed event.

Visitors participating in this attraction will be able to retrace Jamaica’s heritage as they see and learn from the Market woman who will treat them with Jamaican foods from her market basket, the Hitch Hiker who will entertain visitors with Jamaican Jokes and folk songs and the Story Teller who will take the guests back in time with stories of Jamaica’s history along with more casual stories such as ‘Anansi’ and ‘Duppy’ stories.

Learning about a country’s culture through reliving the experience, visiting historic sites and communities is the third most popular vacation activity for most travelers behind shopping and outdoor activities,” said Myrtle Dwyer as she pointed out the inspiration behind ‘De Country Bus’.
