FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Republic of (Free-Press-Release.com) May 17, 2011 -- Average life expectancy (LE) has been steadily climbing and infant deaths dropped across much of the world during the first decade of the 21st century, according to figures released by the World Health Organization.

WHO reports that life expectancy in India has gone up to 65 years in the year 2009. In comparison, an average Indian lived for 57 years in 1990 and 61 years in 2000.

According to the 2009 figures, Indian women have three years higher LE at 66 years than average of 63 years for Indian men. In the year 2000, an Indian woman lived for 62 years while a man lived till 60.

However, India’s average LE was still three years less than the global average. Not only that, it remains lower than most countries in the sub continent. For example, despite harsh climatic fluctuations, average LE for Maldives is as high as 71 years. But an average Pakistani (at 63 years) lived two years less than an average Indian in 2009. The LE stood at 67 in Nepal, 65 in Bangladesh and 70 in Thailand.
