Austin, TX, February 26, 2013 ” Since the new year, Gluu, a cloud identity service provider, has signed 8 more universities to its subscription based EDU federation and cloud identity solution. New institutions include: Millersville, University of Arkansas Research & Extension, Colby College, Bergen College, Cornell Medical, Albright College, Boise State University, and Slippery Rock University.

œWe've been fortunate to work with a number of prestigious universities, and we're thrilled to continue providing services to the higher education community, said Gluu CEO Mike Schwartz. œBy providing our service to a number of institutions and organizations, we are able to drive down the price and increase the quality of the single sign-on and cloud identity service an organization can offer its users.

Gluu EDU is built on Shibboleth, the leading higher education open source SAML (security assertion mark-up language) software, and allows a university's IT team to more easily provision and manage which websites and applications students, faculty, and staff can access using their university issued email and password.

A person is electronically authenticated through Gluu, typically via Username and Password (but could also include a stronger authentication method such as mobile or biometric validation), and then information about the person, otherwise known as attributes such as name, email, and birthday are released to websites and applications as appropriate.

œThis solves a common problem: the need to create and maintain student passwords at multiple websites, which can lead to damaging privacy breaches, continued Schwartz.

The 8 new universities represent an additional 75,000 students, faculty and staff who are now using Gluu to securely authenticate and gain single sign-on access to a myriad of approved apps. Gluu also supports RADIUS for wi-fi and VPN access, OpenID Connect for OAuth 2.0 authentication, and SCIM for easier cloud identity management.

Gluu's on-demand cloud identity platform is fully customizable and is designed to run œout-of-the-box on existing hardware or a dedicated cloud server provided by Gluu. Free trials of the complete, integrated SSO solution are available through Gluu and are typically completed in one to three weeks.
