United States of America -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Feb 4, 2010 -- Increased bookings from last minute cruises and falling fuel costs combined to help cruise giant Carnival beat profit expectations.
The owner of the Carnival, Princess and Holland America cruise lines raised its profit outlook for the full year, sending its stock up yesterday nearly 5%, or $1.52, to $33.52. The shares have gained 38% this year. Execs said business was stabilizing after a year of troubles brought on by the recession and the swine flu. That's allowing the company to finally begin to raise deeply discounted fares for some destinations, they said. Also helping: Fuel costs fell nearly 40% from the year-ago quarter, Carnival said. In addition, the company said travelers were beginning to make reservations further in advance, in contrast to the last minute purchases that have been standard for months.
