The Cleveland CG2 Gold Iron Set (=http://www.cheapgolfclubs18.com/goods-221-Cleveland+CG2+Gold+Iron+Set.html) features heads constructed of CMM material, which is considerably softer than other cast heads, due to the fact that it has 17% more carbon to create a softer, more solid feel at impact.
Briefly, it has the following features:
1. Low density, Carbon Metal Matrix construction provides improved stability at impact and allows for a lower, deeper Center of Gravity (CG) for higher initial launch trajectory
2. Perimeter-weighting supported by a small cavity back provide improved forgiveness on off-center hits
3. Spheres within the Carbon Metal Matrix construction dampen vibration at impact
4. Shafts - Dynamic Gold R300 (Regular flex) & S300 (Stiff flex).
After reading a rating of the Cleveland CG2 irons, I decided to try them. After all, I had been using Cleveland wedges for years and I had always wondered why their irons weren't as popular.
The Cleveland CG7 Irons 2009 (=http://www.cheapgolfclubs18.com/goods-218-Cleveland+CG7+Irons+2009+.html) are nice, blade-looking irons with some of the forgiveness of cavity backs. The soles and top lines are blade-like. If you need size and thickness for confidence, do not stop here. However, if a blade-like appearance appeals to you, you can get the look and a little forgiveness here. It's easy to work the ball with these sticks and they go through rough like butter. They are long and they feel sweet on center hits; although, they do sting on miss hits. Unlike my former MP33s, the CG2s caused even my miss hits to fly within a club of center hits. They are lighter, thinner and longer than my old X-Tours and easy to clean.
The CMM (carbon metal matrix) is dull on feedback. You won't know a center hit by feel, except you feel a blunted impact. Next, the CMM also appears to slightly discolor and show wear quickly over time. It appears to be softer than steel, so you will see wear on the soles and maybe even some signs of a rust- like appearance in the grooves after regular use. Finally, the other down side is Cleveland irons depreciate rapidly over time. As a buyer, you can get real deals on used and new Cleveland CG Red Iron Set (=http://www.cheapgolfclubs18.com/goods-219-Cleveland+CG+Red+Iron+Set.html) these days. Unlike their wedges, there is a shortage of people interested in purchasing Cleveland irons. Strange, but true.
Otherwise, these irons say, "game on". I really liked the CG2 irons. If you are a consistently good ball striker, I recommend them to you. They are a good buy if you are on a tight budget, or if you tend to keep your clubs a long time.
The satin finish is of higher grade than most cast clubs. Still looks great after two busy years on the course and range. To sum it up, it's a club that will be able to give back what you put into it.
