Good Garden Food Drive Launches With Schools Across North America
Welcome visit Our WebSite:
http://www.thegoodgarden.org What: The North American Good Garden Food Drive is a service program launched by One Hen, Inc., to get children to understand the issues of food security in their community and around the world and help to make a difference. Children will learn about food security through best-selling author Katie Smith Milway’s new book The Good Garden: How One Family Went from Hunger to Having Enough, and resources on www.thegoodgarden.org and collect and donate food to a local food bank. Results will be collected at www.thegoodgarden.org during the drive to show the combined impact of children across North America.

Why: Food security is one of the big issues of our time. Over 49.1 million people in the US are living in food insecure households and 16.7 million of them are children. In Canada, nearly 956,000 Canadian households experience food insecurity. Only half the people in the world always have enough food. The rest are not food secure: they cannot be sure of having enough food to meet their needs. And of that half, some 17 percent face real food shortages that may result in malnutrition and even starvation. Yet there is enough food on earth to feed all its inhabitants.
How: Form a team in your school, class or organization to collect and donate food to a food bank in your community. Register and report how much you have donated at www.thegoodgarden.org and see how the combined force of children across North America is making a difference.
When: Fall Food Drive: Wednesday, September 1, 2010 to Wednesday, December 15, 2010.
